RetroSync's GBA-to-Switch Adapter Firms Up Early December Launch at £39

DrewWorks confirms an early December release at £39 for RetroSync, a hardware bridge connecting original GBA Pokémon cartridges to Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.

RetroSync's clever bridge between original Game Boy Advance Pokémon cartridges and modern Nintendo Switch hardware has received another concrete update. The wireless adapter is now officially targeting an early December release at £39, approximately $51 or €46, with interested buyers able to join a mailing list ahead of availability. The device connects Game Boy Advance hardware with compatible Pokémon releases on Nintendo's newer systems, allowing classic cartridges to participate in wireless functions that would otherwise belong to two completely different technological generations.

Current compatibility centres on Pokémon FireRed, LeafGreen and Emerald. The project has already demonstrated real communication between original GBA hardware and Switch systems, turning what initially looked like a delightful laboratory experiment into something approaching a finished consumer accessory. No exact December day has been announced and there is currently no preorder option, so anyone selling certainty along with their Pikachu should be treated cautiously.

The preservation significance extends beyond moving individual Pokémon. Old games increasingly contain features dependent on peripherals, networking standards or partner hardware that disappears long before the cartridge itself stops working. RetroSync preserves a little of that connective tissue. Pokémon's slogan was once about catching them all. In 2026, the harder challenge is apparently convincing twenty-five years of Nintendo hardware to talk about them.
